Irathane Railroad Tie Pads

It’s a fact that more than 40% of all freight moved in the U.S. moves by rail.  This proves that railroads are still a vital link in our economy.  Because of this, much attention has been paid by the heavy haul carriers, and the suppliers that support them, to constantly improve the products, services, and methodology required to keep it strong.  While the overall picture for crossties continues to lean to wood, many other materials have appeared on the market in an effort to offer more cost effective solutions.  Among these are concrete, steel, plastic, laminated, and composite materials.  Unfortunately, along with these alternative materials and practices come some new challenges, for example, rail seat abrasion.  Irathane Systems collectively with some of the heavy haul railroads has been working to eliminate/retard this problem.  Through these efforts we developed a 90 Durometer Urethane Tie Pad that offer extended life over conventional rubber, neoprene, polyethylene, and thermoplastic urethane compounds.

WHY IRATHANE TIE PADS?

  • AAR Tested to over 1 million cycles with no signs of cracking, splitting, or dimensional changes.
  • Field proven to perform by several United States and Canadian heavy haul railroads.
  • Retain performance and durability to as low as -40º F and as high as 140º F.
  • Thermoset ether urethane is resistant to attack from oil, moisture, and ozone.
  • Retard rail seat abrasion due to their ability to remain intact during use (Reducing pumping action that erodes the rail seat)
  • Designed specifically to reduce shock from impacting loads.
  • Can be used on concrete, steel, wood, composite, plastic, and laminated ties.
  • Ability to custom manufacture pads to any configuration.

OTHER APPLICATIONS

Irathane’s highly abrasion-resistant urethanes can be custom manufactured for use as:Turnout pads
  • Load bearing pads
  • Screening media
  • Box car liners
  • Impact plates
